The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across the country for Wednesday, July 2, 2025, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant against possible flash floods and weather-related disruptions.
In its daily weather outlook, NiMet projected that the Northern region will experience sunny skies with patches of cloud in the morning, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains later in the day. States expected to be affected include Zamfara, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, and Taraba.
For the Central states, including the Federal Capital Territory, sunny intervals with cloudy patches are expected in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall likely in Plateau, FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, and Niger. These conditions are anticipated to persist into the afternoon and evening hours.

In the Southern region, NiMet predicts cloudy skies with light morning rains in parts of Cross River, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom. The afternoon and evening are expected to bring isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall to a wider area including Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Continuous rainfall is likely over the coastal states.
NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions due to the potential for flash flooding, strong winds, and disruptions, especially in storm-prone areas.
It also cautioned motorists against driving during heavy rainfall, warning of poor visibility and slippery roads. Citizens are advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during storms due to the risk of falling branches.
Airline operators have been encouraged to liaise with NiMet for airport-specific weather forecasts and updates to ensure flight safety.
NiMet urged Nigerians to stay informed through its official channels for timely updates and to prioritize safety as the rainy season intensifies across the country.
