Worried by the continued rise of piracy within Nigeria’s waterways, the House of Representatives on Thursday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to order the military to immediately move into the affected areas and dispel any form of piracy.
This followed a motion of urgent national importance moved by Robinson Uwak, in which the House noted the roles of the president as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and those of the armed forces as stated in Section 217(2)(a-c) and 218(1).

Worried that several oil vessels, cargo boats and passenger boats have been attacked, people kidnapped, traders killed and goods stolen, Uwak “worried about the escalation of these violent pirate attacks, which are basically targeted at robbing commercial vessels, which convey goods in and out of Nigeria’s waterways, thus adversely affecting commerce.
