The organised private sector in Akwa Ibom has lamented the lack of economic blueprint in the state, saying it is hindering the realisation of government’s industrial development programme.
It noted that an economic blueprint should have captured sector by sector needs within specified timelines, adding that it would also help to identify the organisations responsible for driving the process.
According to a member of the executive council of Uyo Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the absence of economic blueprint is also working against the emergence of the private sector, describing Akwa Ibom State economy as civil service driven.
“If the government is serious about driving economic activities, particularly in the agriculture sector, it should work with the chambers of commerce within identified members, Offiong Akpan said.
Akpan, who is chairman and chief executive officer of Kenduo Nigeria Limited, decried the inability of the chamber to collaborate with the state government in which members should have submitted inputs and chart an economic blueprint for the state.
