The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has again assured motorists in Abuja, its environs and other parts of the country not to engage in any panic buying of petroleum products as the corporation has made arrangement for adequate supply of petrol.
This was disclosed in as statement issued by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the corporation, Ndu Ughamadu, made available to BusinessDay on Thursday, stressing that the NNPC has robust stock of PMS, otherwise called petrol, which is sufficient to serve the nation for more than 30 days.
This plea comes on the heels of queues noticeable in some fuel stations, especially in Abuja, the statement said.
“Motorists are advised to report any marketer selling above N145 per litre of petrol or hoarding the products to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) which is statutorily empowered to deal with such issues.
“DPR has offices located in all parts of the country,” the NNPC said in the statement.
The corporation noted that law enforcement agencies would mete out appropriate sanctions to operators of fuel stations who engage in hoarding or sell products above the recommended band, the statements warned.
Nigerians are still going through very harrowing fuel queues across the country despite the assurances by the the NNPC, which insists the situation is being ameliorated and will soon completely come to an end.
The corporation had blamed the scarcity on hoarding being perpetrated by some ‘unscrupulous’ elements among the marketers who were bent on making illicit gains from the hardship of Nigerians.
