Nigerian gender rights advocate and lawyer Omowumi Ogunrotimi has been honoured with the prestigious 2025 Global Citizen Prize at a ceremony held in New York City on April 30, marking a significant achievement in her tireless campaign for gender equity and justice.
The award ceremony, which attracted global attention from world leaders, policy influencers, and human rights advocates, celebrated Ogunrotimi alongside three other distinguished changemakers: Valeriia Rachynska of Ukraine, Taily Terena of Brazil, and Lydia Amenyaglo of Ghana.
Ogunrotimi’s recognition comes as a global acknowledgement of her transformative work in the gender ecosystem, particularly her leadership in advocating for the passage of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill by Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives. Her efforts have also led to the successful localisation of sexual harassment prevention frameworks by 26 sub-national governments across Nigeria.
