Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £70 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils, eager to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad ahead of the new season, have made Mbeumo a key part of their summer rebuild.
The deal includes a base fee of £65 million with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons. This comes after United’s third bid for the player, following previous offers of £55m and £60m, were rejected.
Mbeumo, 25, had a standout 2024/25 Premier League campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists for Brentford. His explosive form drew interest from several top-flight clubs, including Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by his former coach, Thomas Frank.
However, Mbeumo made it clear that his preferred destination was Old Trafford.
Rio Ferdinand previously described the winger as “ridiculous” in praise of his consistent performances, and United believe his pace, creativity, and goal threat can transform their attacking line.
After finishing a disappointing 15th last season, United have already completed a move for Brazil forward Matheus Cunha, and the signing of Mbeumo marks another major step in revamping their frontline.
The club is still in the market for a natural number nine, amid growing uncertainty around the futures of Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho, all of whom could leave permanently this summer.
Questions also remain over striker Rasmus Hojlund’s role under Amorim, while United are actively pursuing reinforcements in central midfield, defence, and potentially in goal, depending on further outgoings to generate funds.
With pre-season preparations already underway, Mbeumo’s arrival is expected to inject much-needed quality and energy into a squad desperate for revival.
