The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) has unveiled plans to introduce special number plates to identify and recognize People Living with Disabilities (PLWD) across the state.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Lagos on Tuesday, 22nd April, 2025, which also marked the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
Osiyemi highlighted that the initiative is in line with the inclusive agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration under the THEMES Plus policy framework, which prioritizes social inclusion and equity.
Reflecting on the LSNPPA’s performance from May 2024 to March 2025, Osiyemi shared that the authority produced a total of 218,400 standard number plates for private and commercial vehicles.
He also emphasized that the LSNPPA serves as the manufacturing arm of the Lagos State Government, responsible for the production of all vehicle number plates in the state.
Over the last two decades, the agency has expanded its scope to include the production of aluminum-based road furniture, contributing to the development of the state’s infrastructure and aesthetic goals.

In addition, the authority produced 716 customized fancy motor vehicle plates, 347 fancy motorcycle plates, and 224 out-of-series number plates for special numbering needs.
The LSNPPA also issued 11,152 standard number plate replacements, 212 motorcycle plate replacements, and 63 fancy number plate replacements to maintain accurate vehicle identification.
Further contributing to the state’s transport system, the agency manufactured 428 official number plates, 1,510 dealer plates, and 4,000 articulated vehicle plates during the period.
Osiyemi also noted that the LSNPPA is collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps on initiatives to produce eco-friendly number plates as part of the state’s Go Green campaign.
Addressing public concerns about fading number plates, he assured that the state uses high-quality materials for production. However, he cautioned that certain car cleaning products are corrosive and could accelerate the wear and tear of number plates. “Just like humans, number plates have a lifespan and should be replaced when necessary,” Osiyemi advised.
