Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles, have left the country for Chile ahead of the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup finals.
The seven-time African champions, accompanied by 11 officials, departed Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Sunday evening aboard a Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul, where they will connect to Santiago. Midfielder Daniel Daga is expected to link up with the squad in Chile from his base in Norway.
The team will undergo a 12-day final training camp in Santiago before settling in Talca, where all their Group F matches will be played at the Estadio Fiscal. Nigeria open their campaign against Norway on Monday, 29 September, before facing Saudi Arabia on 2 October and Colombia on 5 October.
The Flying Eagles had been fine-tuning their preparations with several weeks of training in Abuja.
This year’s edition, the 24th since its inception in 1977, will be staged across Santiago, Rancagua, Valparaiso and Talca.
Nigeria, who reached the semi-finals of the last tournament in Argentina but fell to the Korea Republic after extra time, have twice finished as runners-up – in Saudi Arabia (1989) and the Netherlands (2005).
