Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have commenced an indefinite strike starting Monday, September 15, 2025, citing the government’s failure to address their demands.
The Association of Resident Doctors, FCT (ARD-FCTA), confirmed the action in a statement signed by Agbor Affiong, its General Secretary, ollowing an emergency meeting on September 14.
The association said the strike follows the government’s failure to respond to their concerns, even after a one-week warning strike.
They stated that work will not resume until the government and hospital management demonstrate genuine commitment to improving doctors’ welfare and healthcare delivery in the FCT.
Last week, the association suspended services for seven days to protest poor working conditions and unpaid entitlements.

Other concerns include staff shortages and inadequate welfare, which they say are affecting morale and service delivery.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, ARD-FCTA Chairman, George Ebong said the strike became necessary due to the lack of meaningful engagement with authorities.
He noted that the 14 public hospitals in the FCT are understaffed, with some doctors attending to over 30 patients a day and performing multiple caesarean sections during a single shift.
Ebong said at least 200 more doctors are needed to fill the manpower gap. He added that the pressure has led some doctors to rely on antidepressants and medication for high blood pressure.
The association said the strike will continue until concrete steps are taken to address their demands.
