The Federal Government has flagged off the phase one of the construction of the 14km Mbaise-Ngwa Road project with a bridge at the Imo River in Imo/Abia states at the cost of N12.943 billion.
The road project, which is being handled by Mangrovetech Nigeria Limited, an indigenous construction company, would be completed in 12 months.
According to Mike Onolememen, the Minister of Works, the phase one of the road covers 14km and would link up all towns and villages along the corridor in Imo, Abia and up to Rivers states.

Onolememen, who flagged off the road project along with Chris Anyanwu, the senator representing Imo East senatorial zone, at Afor Ogbe in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, said the road would increase commercial activities and transportation of agricultural produce within the states.
The second phase of the road that will link Abia State, would be awarded soon, and would entail the construction of a six-span bridge across the Imo River. Thereafter, the economic benefit of the contract would be fully realised, said the works minister.
