The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted widespread reports claiming that its operatives sealed off the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
In a statement released on Monday, the Command described the reports as “false, misleading, and unreflective of the actual situation on ground.”
According to the Command, officers were only deployed to the PDP Secretariat to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of lives and property.
The statement emphasised that the deployment was in line with the police’s constitutional responsibility to prevent the breakdown of law and order, especially around politically sensitive locations.
“At no point was the PDP Secretariat sealed off by the Police,” the statement clarified.
The Command also advised media outlets and members of the public always to verify sensitive information before circulation.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT urged journalists and media platforms to verify details through the Police Public Relations Officer before publishing, to prevent the spread of misinformation.
