Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has visited Joint Task Force (JTF) bases in Kunchi and Shanono Local Government Areas, where he commended security personnel for their gallantry and assured them of his government support in tackling the rising spate of bandit attacks along the Kano–Katsina border.
The governor, accompanied by heads of security agencies in the state, met with troops drawn from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Police, DSS, Civil Defence, and local vigilantes who make up the JTF formations in the affected areas.
Welcoming the governor, A.M. Tukur, commander, 3 Brigade, Kano, highlighted the daily patrol operations carried out in vulnerable communities, which have recently witnessed increased bandit activities.

Governor Yusuf said his visit was aimed at assessing the security situation and motivating frontline operatives.
“These security challenges in Kano State are new and alien to us. By the grace of Allah, we will do whatever it takes to clamp down on these bandits and kidnappers. Those kidnapped will, Insha Allah, be brought back to their families,” the governor assured.
He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting security personnel through improved welfare and continuous collaboration.
In Shanono, the Commander of 3 Brigade briefed the governor on operations covering the border corridor from Tsaure to Ubon Samir. He revealed that troops had engaged a large number of bandits on November 1, a clash that resulted in the loss of two soldiers, one vigilante member, and two military vehicles.
Despite the losses, he said the troops neutralized several bandits and have since maintained aggressive patrols around border villages where attacks have shifted.
Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the expanding infiltration of bandits into Kano’s border communities, describing the situation as a “cancer” that must be eliminated.
“Kano has remained the most peaceful state in the North. It is unfortunate that bandits are infiltrating border areas, killing residents and kidnapping others. But I assure you, we are with you. Your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said.
The governor disclosed that after three emergency Security Council meetings in Kano, he visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek federal reinforcement. According to him, the president immediately directed the Chief of Army Staff to deploy additional monitoring teams, while more troops, vehicles, and equipment are expected in the coming days.
Yusuf urged the JTF to remain focused, continue working closely with local communities, and intensify intelligence gathering.
He assured them that his administration, in partnership with security agencies, would continue to provide all necessary support, including welfare improvements, logistical backing, and frequent field visits to monitor operations.
The visit comes amid a surge in bandit attacks in Kunchi, Shanono, and surrounding areas, prompting renewed efforts to stabilise the region.
