Jibril Abubakar, a pastoralist in the Federal Capital Territory, has said access to safe grazing land and permanent settlement influenced his decision to vote in Saturday’s area council election.
Abubakar, who cast his ballot at the Chibiri Overhead Tank Polling Unit in Chibiri Ward of Kuje, told BusinessDay that many pastoralist families in the area were primarily concerned about where to live and graze their cattle without conflict.
He noted that several candidates had reached out to their community with promises of boreholes, schools, and improved living conditions.
“The major challenge we face is having a place to call home and somewhere safe to graze our cattle. That is why I came out to vote,” he said.
His comments reflect how land security, social amenities, and peaceful coexistence remain key issues shaping voter priorities in rural communities across the FCT.
