Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has criticised his teammates after the Premier League champions’ miserable run continued with a shocking 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, saying the players are “letting Arne Slot down.”
Despite spending over £450 million in the summer transfer window, Slot’s side have now lost six of their last seven Premier League matches, sliding into the bottom half of the league table and further piling pressure on the Dutch manager.

“We are definitely letting him (Arne Slot) down, but we have let ourselves down as well,” Van Dijk said.
“You look at yourself first, and then you help each other get out of this mess, because at the moment, it is a mess.
“As champions, we can’t be in this situation. What are we going to do about it? We’re going to try to turn it around, and that’s the mentality everyone should have.”

Liverpool’s expensive summer arrivals have struggled to make an impact.
£125 million signing Alexander Isak is still without a Premier League goal.
Others from last season’s title-winning squad have also dipped, with Ibrahima Konaté hooked early following another poor display.
“What I want is for everyone to take responsibility on the pitch,” Van Dijk added.
“You have to stick together, not point fingers. Be a man, face the toughness, and go again and again. If you want to give up, you’re at the wrong club.”
While domestic form has collapsed, Liverpool have fared better in Europe, winning three of four Champions League matches.
Slot’s side will hope continental competition offers relief when PSV Eindhoven visit Anfield on Wednesday.
