Kylian Mbappe delivered a sensational four-goal performance as Real Madrid beat Olympiacos 4–3 on Wednesday in their UEFA Champions League group stage match.
Olympiacos struck first when Chiquinho fired home from 20 yards after a slick move, but Mbappe quickly took control of the night and the Champions League scoring charts.
The French captain equalised in the 22nd minute, racing onto a brilliant Vinícius Júnior pass and finishing through goalkeeper Kostas Tzolakis’ legs. Two minutes later, he headed home from an Arda Güler cross to put Madrid ahead.
Mbappe completed his hat-trick, the second-fastest in Champions League history, by steering in another clinical finish after running clear, scoring his three goals in just 6 minutes and 42 seconds. Only Mohamed Salah’s 2022 burst for Liverpool was quicker.
Olympiacos substitute Mehdi Taremi pulled one back with a bullet header early in the second half, capitalising on Madrid’s injury-hit defence, with Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Éder Militão, Antonio Rüdiger and Dean Huijsen all unavailable.
But Mbappe struck again for his fourth after excellent work from Vinícius on the left, extending his tournament tally to nine goals in five matches, three ahead of Victor Osimhen.
Ayoub El Kaabi added a late goal to make it 4–3, but Madrid held on to secure their first-ever away win against Greek opposition at the eighth attempt.
“The important thing today was to change the dynamic and get back that winning feeling,” said Madrid coach Xabi Alonso. “Kylian stands out with the goals, but everyone’s contribution was vital.”
“It was very important to get back to winning ways; three matches without a win is a lot for us,” Mbappé told Movistar. “The team looks good to me. Of course, there are things to improve. At a club like Real Madrid, it’s normal that people talk.”
Real Madrid now move to fifth in the Champions League standings, with group-stage matches still to come against Manchester City, Monaco and Benfica.
