Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has cautioned youths against being overly ambitious, saying what each person will become has already been deposited in them by God.
Tinubu gave the admonition during the official inauguration and handover of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. The centre was built by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and was inaugurated by the First Lady.
The First Lady warned young people against coveting other people’s aspirations, advising them to focus on building their own paths.
She said, “Dream your own dreams and prayerfully seek the face of God. Do not be overly ambitious. What you will become, God has already deposited in you. Do not be covetous of other people’s dreams; build yours.
“There are so many things we can achieve. I want to encourage our young people—boys, young men and ladies—to dream big and walk that dream. Patiently walk the dream.”
Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, praised the First Lady for her selflessness and leadership, saying, “If I had my way, I would celebrate you every day on this sacred ground because of your angelic ways of doing things. Your legacy is alive and will continue to endure.”
He added that the Dream Centre was created to honour her contributions and to provide students with a space for inspiration.
The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, said the centre combines digital technology, artificial intelligence and storytelling to preserve history and guide young people in leadership.
He explained that students can interact with digital tools to learn about the First Lady’s journey as a teacher, senator, minister and national leader.
Adebayo Bamire, Professor and Vice-Chancellor of OAU, expressed gratitude to the First Lady, describing her visit as historic and the intervention as one that goes beyond physical infrastructure.
He said the Dream Centre represents a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire students and scholars, while reaffirming the university’s pride in her as a distinguished alumna and enduring symbol of service and excellence.
