More houses have been burnt in Dan-Anacha community, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State in continuation of the crisis between Tiv and Jukun over a name change from Dan-Anacha to Kwararafa.
An eye witness, Kelvin Katyo, told BusinessDaysaid that sporadic shooting by soldiers stationed in the area resulted in an exchange of fire with other residents of the town and the soldiers.
He recounted that the attack destroyed the residence of Tiv Community Leader, Simon Eremtsa and other big houses belonging to the people.
Yahuza Yayau, Chairman of Gassol Local Government Area, said that many houses had been burnt from both Jukun and Tiv sides in the areas.
Yayau, however, said that the situation was calm as four Hilux vans belonging to Nigeria Army had been drafted to the area as reinforcement.
The crisis arose between Tiv and Jukun in Dan-Anacha town at the weekend following a change of name from Dan-Anacha to Kwararafa.
Dan-Anacha is believed to be a Tiv settlement that existed over a 100 years. The Jukun are said to be claiming that Dan-Anacha was originally a Jukun settlement where they sojourned before migrating down to the present Wukari.
