Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has, in a major move to boost healthcare delivery in the State, begun the construction, expansion and conversion of the General Hospital Akwanga into a Specialist Hospital.
The groundbreaking ceremony held in Akwanga marked the beginning of a N6 billion Phase One of the project that would transform General Hospital Akwanga into a modern Specialist Medical Centre.
Governor Sule directed the contractors to ensure completion within 15 months, assuring that funding would not delay the project.
“Whatever money you need to complete this project in 15 months, we will pay you,” the governor declared.

The hospital, when completed, will feature a Trauma Centre, a five-storey complex, advanced diagnostic centre, imaging services, upgraded laboratories, and improved inpatient and outpatient facilities.
According to the governor, the project will reduce the pressure on tertiary hospitals and limit the need for patients to travel long distances for specialised medical treatment.
He added that the development aligns with his administration’s strategy to strengthen healthcare delivery across primary, secondary and tertiary referral systems in the State.
Governor Sule also commended the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for approving the bill that converted the General Hospital to Nasarawa State Specialist Hospital, Akwanga.
