Active business transactions may soon return to Port Harcourt port as stakeholders are planning to convene a summit aimed at resuscitating the ailing harbour.
President of the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), Emeka Unachukwu, who made the disclosure to BusinessDay, said the condition of the sea port has become worrisome, and could not remain as such because stakeholders will put heads together for a summit.
A source at the Nigerian Shippers Council at Azikiwe Road, Port Harcourt, said the council was also worried about the port’s condition and may call for a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss the way forward.
Unachukwu stated that the sea port presently is a shadow of what it used to be and less than what a normal sea port might look like. He revealed that almost all the ports in the Niger Delta region are not working at full capacity.
