Winner of the Anambra Central Senatorial rerun election, Victor Umeh, has taken his oath of office as a senator.
Senate President Bukola Saraki administered the oath on Umeh on Thursday, moments after Senate approved the Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday’s legislative business.
Recall that Umeh, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had received his certificate of return at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday.
Umeh replaces Uche Ekwunife, who was sacked by the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu in late 2015. Since then, the area has been without representation.
With this development, All Progressives Congress (APC) now has 67 seats (representing 61 percent), 41 lawmakers under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) (representing 38 percent) and the remaining one position by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) (representing 1 percent).
