The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s commissioner nominees while confirming five of the nine nominees for appointment as commissioners and members of the State Executive Council.
Fubara had on February 12, 2026 dissolved his cabinet, and subsequently sent a list of commissioner-nominees to the House of Assembly for confirmation.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has rejected four commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The nominees who were screened on Monday and confirmed are Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Amairigha Edward Hart.
Those rejected are Datonye Alasia, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.

The lawmakers cited “poor performance†as reason for not confirming Alasia, adding that Demua did not present tax documents; Williams was rejected for misleading the public on the activities of the Assembly, while Amachree had over 11 petitions on his involvement in community cases.
Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Assembly, after the screening, said the names of nominees cleared would be sent to Governor Fubara for appointment as commissioners.
The appointment of a new cabinet by Fubara is being seen as part of the latest truce brokered by President Bola Tinubu which ushered in peace between the governor and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
It is not clear what signals the lawmakers’ action will send as the Rivers State Government House is yet to react to the new development.
The Assembly has adjourned sitting to March 17, 2026.
