The Jigawa State Government has approved a reduction in official working hours for civil servants in the state in observance of the 2026 Ramadan fast.
Governor Umar Namadi approved as part of efforts to ease the burden on workers during the holy month.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Muhammad Dagaceri, the State Head of Civil Service and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Dutse.
According to the statement, civil servants will now close at 3:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, instead of the usual 5:00 p.m. On Fridays, working hours will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in line with existing practice.
Dagaceri said the adjustment was designed to support workers during the fasting period.
“The adjustment is intended to ease the burden on civil servants, allowing them more time to prepare for iftar and engage in Ramadan’s spiritual activities.
“It is expected that civil servants will take advantage of this period to pray for God’s guidance and blessings upon our state”, Dagaceri stated.
The government also urged workers to use the holy month to pray for peace, stability and economic prosperity in Jigawa State and across Nigeria.
The new working hours take effect immediately and will remain in force throughout the Ramadan period.
