In affirmation of its resolve to contribute its quota to simplifying cargo clearing process at the international airport, Primeport Logistics has disbursed 25 new walkie-talkie to various stakeholders in the cargo section of the airport.
The new gadgets, the firm says, will no doubt ease cargo clearing process at the airport as well as boost efficiency and profitability among stakeholders and operators respectively.
Cargo clearing experience at Port Harcourt international airport has before now suffered a series of challenges, ranging from concealing of information among stakeholders to lack of communication tools to facilitate a smooth flow of cargo hauling process by clearing agents.
These setbacks have in several ways continued to clip the ambition of the international airport to become a cargo hub for the South-south region of the country.
“After a careful study of the challenges in the cargo section of the airport, we discovered that tallying of cargo was a major setback to smooth cargo clearing at this airport,” Femi Adewunmi, managing director, Primeport Logistics, told journalists at his office in Port Harcourt where he presented the communication gadgets to various stakeholders at the airport.
This prevailing challenge, the Managing Director said, prompted his firm to take up the initiative of providing the 25 new walking-talking to various cargo stakeholders in the airport.
“Our mission from inception of this business was to convert the Port Harcourt international airport into a hub by offering competitive services delivery,” Adewunmi further said.
Cargo clearing at Port Harcourt international airport has been tipped by industry watchers as a gold-mine worth N5bn with only very few informal operators handling the 17.5 million kilos of cargoes annually imported directly into the airport.
