Chiemerie Anieke, a 21-year-old apprentice, who allegedly killed his master in Onitsha, Anambra State, after an argument that ensued as a result of being scolded for keeping late night, has been arrested by the Police.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, on Monday, said the male suspect, allegedly used a pestle to strike his master and businessman, Ikechukwu Nwite, on the head, resulting in his death on Feb.15, 2026.
The suspect also attacked his wife, Ogechukwu Nwite, who is the manager of their business, but she was lucky to have been rescued by neighbours and had been hospitalised.
Ikenga affirmed that the suspect is currently in custody, and the pestle had been recovered from the scene.
According to him, preliminary information reveals that the suspect was allegedly provoked by the manner in which the late Ikechukwu admonished him over his bad behaviour, including pilfering money meant for the shop, staying out late at night and taking drugs.
Ikechukwu’s wife, he said, was rescued and taken to the hospital, where she is currently responding to treatment.
Ikenga added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation and to ensure that justice is served.
Sources said the late businessman had scolded his apprentice on Sunday morning for coming back late on Saturday night, but unknown to him, the boy had prepared for him.
He attacked his master with a pestle, aiming at his head and smashed the head. It was gathered that the incident happened at Onyia Uke Street, Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government Area of the State.
