The Plateau State Government has dismissed a social media report alleging that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
In a statement by Gyang Bere, the Director of Press and Public Affairs (DOPPA), to governor Mutfwang, made available to journalists on Friday in Jos, the government described the claim as a reckless and deliberately misleading fabrication.
It said the rumour was the handiwork of “desperate mischief makers” aiming to sow confusion and create disaffection among citizens of the state.
“The attention of the Plateau State Government has been drawn to a reckless and deliberately misleading statement being circulated on social media, falsely alleging that the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
“Let it be stated without ambiguity: this claim is a blatant lie, a shameless concoction peddled by desperate mischief makers whose only intent is to stoke disaffection, sow confusion, and mislead the peace-loving citizens of Plateau State”; the statement said.
The government noted that although the allegation lacked credibility, the government decided to clarify the matter to prevent unsuspecting members of the public from being misled.

According to the statement, “Governor Mutfwang remains focused on delivering the dividends of democracy through people-centered projects and development initiatives across Plateau State.”
The government urged citizens, supporters, and well-wishers to disregard the falsehood and stay united in advancing the Plateau project under what it described as the governor’s purposeful and visionary leadership.
