Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, on Monday morning returned to the country after a brief vacation in London, ending weeks of speculation about his health.
Rumours had swirled that the Senate President was critically ill and receiving treatment in a London hospital, raising concerns about possible political implications for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
His return, however, has laid those fears to rest faces mounting expectations from Nigerians.
Akpabio had earlier attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva between July 29 and 31 before proceeding to London for a short break.

He arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 4:00 am on Monday and was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters from across the country.

Speaking with journalists on arrival, Akpabio promised Nigerians robust legislative engagements as the Senate resumes plenary.
He also defended the large Nigerian delegation at the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, stressing that such participation would translate into stronger democratic governance and improved collaboration with the executive and judiciary.
The Senate President’s return is significant, not just for quelling rumours about his health, but also for stabilising the leadership of the Red Chamber as it prepares to deliberate on crucial issues, including economic reforms, security challenges, and pending constitutional amendments.
