Various groups in Rivers State say the state is ripe for ICT boost and tech growth to drive a new economy. Now, the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHCCIMA), has come up with an ICT plan to be driven by the City Chamber.
This was embarked upon by the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Trade Group. This marked a pivotal achievement by officially adopting its 2025 roadmap, signaling what it calls a bold step toward technological advancement and economic growth in Rivers State.
Under the mentorship of Onari Batubo, former PHCCIMA ICT Trade Group Chairman and CEO of COBBS Engineering, the group has aligned its objectives with the vision of PHCCIMA’s first female president, Chinyere Nwoga. This roadmap is said to position the ICT Trade Group as a driver of innovation, digital inclusion, and business transformation.
The 2025 roadmap outlines strategic initiatives to foster digital adoption across industries, enhance enterprise competitiveness, and promote sustainable development through technology-driven solutions.
Group chairman, Fenibo Fubara, hailed the roadmap’s adoption as a cornerstone for transformative achievements, emphasizing its role in advancing the group’s mission.
According to him, the key areas of focus include to promote ICT adoption by encouraging corporate members to embrace digital transformation and adopt new tech solutions for business growth, sustainability and impact.
It also involves collaboration platform so as to create a platform for effective collaboration through events between ICT Companies and traditional industries like manufacturing, oil and gas, health care, agriculture, education to help the traditional companies leverage tech for business growth and create market for the tech companies.
Another point is providing support to startups and SMEs to scale their businesses through technology; and government ICT Policy Advocacy & Advisory by working closely with the government to ensure that policies that are related to ICT and tech development are favourable to businesses and entrepreneurs.
They say this would create a thriving tech ecosystem, attracting investment, talent and opportunities, ultimately leading to a brighter future for PHCCIMA and the State.
Vice chairman, Mary Matthew, echoed this sentiment, stating, “This roadmap sets us on a clear path to harness technology for enterprise growth and sustainable development. Technology is more than a tool—it’s a catalyst for progress, and we are committed to leading this change in Rivers State.”
