The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of corps members serving in the state.
This is just as the state government commenced construction of a new hostel facility at the permanent orientation camp of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Ikare-Akoko.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 of the new corps members posted to the state, said his administration would ensure the speedy completion of all the ongoing projects at the orientation camp.
The Governor informed the corps members that construction had commenced on the 216-bed capacity hostel accommodation earlier approved by the state government, adding that the project is progressing steadily and would be completed and opened for use within the shortest possible time.
He assured the corps members that their welfare and safety remain a top priority of his administration, noting that peace and security have been sustained across the state through collaboration with security agencies.
He encouraged the corps members to perform their duties with confidence and dedication, assuring them of full government support throughout their service year.
Aiyedatiwa, who spoke through the State Commissioner for Youths and Sport Development, Segun Omoyofunmi, urged the corps members to see their stay in Ondo State as an opportunity for impact and positive transformation beyond the fulfilment of statutory obligations.
He advised them to integrate with host communities, learn from the people, and contribute meaningfully to community development while serving with integrity and humility.
Kuburat Bakare, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, in her remarks, described the orientation course as a core pillar of the scheme designed to prepare corps members physically, mentally and emotionally for national service.
She explained that the programme includes paramilitary drills, leadership and citizenship training, lectures, social activities, and the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme aimed at equipping participants with practical skills for self-reliance and life after service.
Bakare urged the corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, comply strictly with camp regulations, and respect constituted authorities, stressing that discipline, humility and teamwork are essential for a successful service year.
She also appealed to employers and community leaders to continue supporting corps members posted to their establishments through conducive working environments, accommodation and welfare assistance.
