A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been killed after she was struck and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation drill in Abuja.
The tragic incident occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill described as a “Tactical Rescue Operation” organised by the Female Strike Force to commemorate the 2026 World Civil Defence Day.
Confirming the development on Saturday, Babawale Afolabi, NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps said the accident was a painful loss to the service.
“It is a very sad and unfortunate incident. We have lost her,” the statement said.
According to the Corps, the deceased officer, Ogbodo Victoria, Assistant Superintendent of Corps was involved in an auto accident while patrol vehicles were manoeuvring as part of the simulation.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment she was struck as one of the vehicles made a turn.
The vehicle stopped shortly after the impact.
Colleagues and bystanders rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue her, while emergency responders later evacuated her to the Intensive Care Unit of Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja, for urgent medical attention.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to save her life, she was pronounced dead.
Ahmed Audi, Commandant-General of the NSCDC, described the incident as shocking and deeply painful.
He extended his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased officer, praying for the repose of her soul.
Audi directed a high-powered delegation from the Corps’ National Headquarters to visit the bereaved family to formally convey the sympathy of the service.
He also assured that the NSCDC would ensure a befitting burial and facilitate the prompt payment of her post-service benefits.
While urging officers and men of the Corps not to be discouraged by the tragedy, the NSCDC boss stressed the need for renewed commitment to duty.
He noted that the accident might have been avoided with stricter safety precautions and better coordination during the exercise.
Audi therefore emphasised strict adherence to safety standards and operational protocols during drills and simulation activities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to strengthening safety measures across its operations while honouring the dedication and sacrifice of the late officer.
