Many Nigerians are expressing themselves after it was revealed that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, attended the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with his two sons.
Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, had on Tuesday, posted a picture of the former Rivers State governor with his sons at the summit on X with the caption: “When e reach your turn, carry your enemies’ travel. Hissssssssssssh…’
The post seemed to irk many Nigerians who felt insulted by the development, with some believing that Wike was deliberately positioning his children for a better life while millions of youths who are probably more qualified than his children are denied such opportunities.

Those who reacted also wondered if public funds were used in such a trip, wondering why the necessities of such a trip in a country with many citizens who struggle to eat one square meal daily.
“Na public money dem use fly go. Hotel, feeding, transport, all funded inside the country wey people dey chop once a day, if dem lucky”, a X user said.
Another X user said, “He go Mayors’ Conference for Dubai, carry him children as official delegates, tag lanyard join. Who born that kind impunity?”.
“Make una no complain tomorrow say economy bad. Na una dey clap when person dey use ministerial office do dynasty tourism. Hisssssssssssssh.”.

Also, a X user noted that Wike is positioning his children, stressing that Nigerians should not be surprised if one of them makes it to the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2027.
“Nigeria no dey Asia. Nigeria no dey Pacific. And Wike no be Mayor. But dem use public funds go Asia-Pacific Mayors’ Summit — carry full family go Dubai like say na UN royal delegation.
“But make una dey play. Just ask Laurent Gbagbo how e start, one day na bulletproof convoy, next day na singlet for floor, wife and pikin dey beside am dey shiver. Na so e go be. One day Nigeria go reset”.
“Which one be Wike pikin role for this event? He be Mayor of what? Or na him dey represent Abuja Municipal Council? This one no be travel again”.
