In the course of recent raids across drug blackspots in the Kano metropolis, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a cache of illicit drugs and hard substances valued at several millions of naira, arresting 22 suspects.
AI Ahmad, NDLEA Kano State Commander, according to a statement issued in Kano, led the operation which was carried out last week in Dan’agundi Construction Site, Gwangwazo Area of Kano metropolis.

The stememt also noted that the raids were also carried out at Farm Centre along Zaria Road, Tashar Rami, and Filin Idi, which were identified as being notorious for drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State.
Sadiq Maigatari, the Public Relations Officer of NDLEA Kano State Command, confirmed to BusinessDay on Friday in Kano that the crackdown resulted in the seizure of cannabis sativa, toxic inhalants such as “suck and die” and rubber solution, as well as locally-made weapons.
Maigatari disclosed that the Command was investigating the suspects in order to identify the drug dealers among them, saying NDLEA would prosecute the suspects and jail them in accordance with the law.

“Individuals identified as users rather than dealers will be referred to our Drug Demand Reduction Unit for counseling and rehabilitation,” he noted.
The Agency emphasised its commitment to proactive and strategic enforcement operations aimed at reducing drug abuse and its attendant security risks in the State.
The Kano State Commander of NDLEA, however, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to ridding the State and Communities of drug threats, just as he called on the public to continue supporting the Agency by reporting drug-related activities to the Command.
