Manchester United are reportedly considering a January transfer move for Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi as they seek to strengthen their midfield options.
According to TeamTalk, the Red Devils have acted on advice from former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who recommended Ndidi as a viable target during recent discussions with the club hierarchy.
Solskjaer was involved in talks over a possible return to Old Trafford as interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s departure, but the board ultimately appointed Michael Carrick to lead the team until the end of the season.

During conversations with Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, Solskjaer reportedly stressed the need for an additional defensive midfielder and suggested Ndidi as a player worth serious consideration.
The 29-year-old Nigerian international, who currently plays for Turkish giants Besiktas, was cited as a midfielder Solskjaer greatly admired from his time managing in the Premier League.
Solskjaer is also familiar with Ndidi from his brief spell in charge of Besiktas, where he worked closely with the midfielder and was impressed by his professionalism, tactical discipline and leadership qualities.
United have since identified the Besiktas captain as a potential transfer target, with Ndidi’s profile viewed as a strong tactical fit for Carrick’s midfield structure.
The Super Eagles skipper’s experience and defensive attributes are understood to align with the club’s ongoing midfield rebuild.
The former Leicester City midfielder joined Besiktas in the summer of 2025 and has delivered a series of impressive performances in the Turkish Super Lig.
His physical presence, ball-winning ability and leadership have made him one of the standout performers in Turkey this season, quickly establishing him as a key figure in the squad.
