Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly turned down a formal approach from Bayern Munich for Colombian forward Luis Diaz.
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, was informed that the Merseyside club have no intention of selling the 28-year-old and will not entertain any negotiations for the attacker.
This is not the first time Diaz has drawn interest this summer, with Barcelona also seeing a similar approach rejected. Liverpool remain firm in their stance that Diaz is not for sale at any price, viewing him as a vital piece of Arne Slot’s title-winning squad.
Since arriving from FC Porto in January 2022, Diaz has become an integral player at Anfield. Last season, he scored 22 goals for club and country, including 13 in the Premier League, while adding seven assists as Liverpool clinched the title by a commanding 10-point margin.
With two years remaining on his contract, Diaz has also previously attracted interest from Manchester City and clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking while on international duty earlier this summer, Diaz reaffirmed his commitment to Liverpool:
“I’m very happy at Liverpool – I’ve always said so,” he said.
“The transfer market is opening, and we’re trying to arrange what’s best for us. I’m waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool give us a good extension or I have to see out my two-year contract, I’ll be happy. It all depends on them.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool have confirmed that former Netherlands international Giovanni van Bronckhorst will join the coaching staff as an assistant to manager Arne Slot. The 50-year-old replaces John Heitinga, who left to take charge at Ajax.
