Councillors in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state have protested their alleged exclusion from the ward congress process of the All Progressives Congress, raising fresh concerns about internal cohesion within the party in Plateau State.
The protest was contained in a letter signed by Markus Gyang, Leader, and Dusu Gawah, Deputy Leader, alongside 18 other legislators, obtained by BusinessDay on Thursday in Jos.
“We humbly write to formally register our complaint regarding the ongoing 2026 APC Ward Congresses in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area,” the councillors stated.
The lawmakers said they were not invited to a preparatory meeting held on February 16 in Barkin Ladi, where committees for the congresses were constituted.
“We have learned with dismay that a meeting was convened in Barkin Ladi but members of the Legislative Council representing the various wards were not informed of the meeting,” the letter read.

They further alleged that the submission of ward congress results, traditionally handled by councillors, had been assigned to other persons, effectively sidelining elected ward representatives.
“We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that this development contradicts the agreement reached between Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and the APC legacy group on the 50–50 sharing formula for principal officers and 60–40 for non-principal officers,” the councillors wrote.
The development comes amid heightened political interest in Plateau State following the emergence of Nentawe Yilwatda as APC national chairman and Governor Mutfwang’s recent defection to the party, with observers closely watching how the new political union will shape the peaceful conduct of party affairs in the state.
