Ibrahim Umar, Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.
Umar, a retired air vice-marshal, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Kano on Monday.
In the letter, the former commissioner attributed his decision to what he described as a strained relationship between Governor Yusuf and his political mentor, Senator Rabi’u Musa
Kwankwaso, saying recent political developments made it difficult for him to continue in office.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in him, recalling his appointment as Director-General of the Special Services Directorate in June 2023 and his subsequent elevation to commissioner.
“It has been a distinct honour and privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of Kano State under your leadership,” Umar said.
However, he noted that stepping aside was in the best interest of the state and the administration, stressing that the decision was taken after careful consideration.
Umar said his service was guided by the principles of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which he described as anchored on justice, discipline and service to the people.
He reaffirmed his continued support for the Kano State Government and its quest for a safer, stronger and more prosperous state, while praying for wisdom and good health for the governor as he leads the affairs of Kano.
The Kano State Government has yet to officially announce a replacement or issue a formal response to the resignation.
