The administration of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has inaugurated a 26-member committee charged with the responsibility of articulating the state inputs into the ongoing constitutional review by the National Assembly.
The high -powered committee is expected to articulate and present the state inputs to the zonal hearing of the Northwest geo-political zone of the constitutional amendment committee of the National Assembly, scheduled to hold on between July 18 to 19, in the Kano.
The inauguration ceremony was performed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouq Ibrahim, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Cabinet Office.
Addressing the gathering Farouq disclosed that the composition of the committee reflects a deliberate selection of highly respected professionals, and thought leaders whose experience and contributions to national development are widely recognised.

The committee is chaired by Auwalu Yadudu, a renowned constitutional lawyer, who is a professor, in the Department of Law, Bayero University, Kano, and a one -time minister of Justice, during the military regime of late General Sani Abacha.
The committee is being co-chaired by Hafiz Abubakar, also a professor at Bayero University, Kano, who was the deputy -governor of the state, during the first tenure of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
To facilitate the work of the committee, Umar Muhammad Jalo, permanent secretary, REPA Directorate, Cabinet Office, is serving as the head the secretariat, to be supported by Abdulkadir Shehu, Director Admin and General services, office of the Head of Civil Service.
While, Aminu Ibrahim Bichi, director, Archives, Council Affairs Directorate), deputy- secretary, REPA, will serve as Co-Secretaries of the committee.
In his address, the SSG urged the committee to critically analyse the proposed constitutional amendments and identify strategic areas of interest to the people of Kano State.
He noted that such areas include matters relating to local government autonomy, the creation of state police, the establishment of a national local government electoral commission, the role of traditional rulers, resource control, and other relevant issues currently under review by the Senate Committee.
Farouq stated the importance of extensive public engagement, encouraging the committee to mobilize contributions from diverse stakeholders and synthesize them into a comprehensive position paper.
This document, he said, would guide legislative input and align with the overarching interests of the state on the constitutional review process.
He commended the committee for its proactive media engagements aimed at raising public awareness and fostering inclusive dialogue, and expressed confidence in their commitment and wished them success in this vital national assignment.

In his acceptance speech, delivered Habu Muhammad, on behalf of the committee `s chairman, Auwalu Yadudu expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the trust reposed in the committee, and assured that the team would carry out its assignment with thoroughness and integrity, and called on the public—especially key stakeholders—to offer maximum support through prayers and constructive contributions to ensure the success of the process.
