…Urges Amnesty to Verify Claims
A civil society organisation, the Kano Peace Coalition, has alleged that social media supporters of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are fuelling political tension in Kano through coordinated online attacks on prominent figures, including the state governor.
The group’s state coordinator, Datti Datti Tukur, made the allegation in a statement issued on Tuesday, claiming that some youth identified with the Kwankwasiyya movement had used their platforms to target political opponents and critics.
According to him, the online posts were directed at personalities such as Abba Kabir Yusuf and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as well as others who disagreed with Kwankwaso’s political ideology.
He cited a specific instance in which the governor was portrayed in altered images wearing female attire and makeup, describing the content as defamatory and capable of inciting unrest.

Tukur further alleged that one Abba Ibrahim Hussain, also known as Aiha, had been arraigned before a Magistrate Court on Zungeru Road and remanded in prison on February 23, 2026, following charges related to cyberbullying, stalking and incitement, based on a complaint by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano.
The coalition also mentioned other individuals it claimed had been questioned or cautioned by security agencies over similar allegations, while insisting that law enforcement actions were based on available evidence rather than political persecution.
The group called on Amnesty International to verify allegations of harassment of political opponents in Kano before issuing public statements, stressing the need for fairness and professionalism.
It maintained that tackling cyberbullying and online incitement was essential to preserving public order and respect for constituted authority in the state.
Efforts to obtain reactions from Kwankwaso’s camp and the individuals mentioned in the allegations were not successful as of the time of filing this report.
