…partners FG on border security
The Administration of Governor Namadi Umar of Jigawa State, is seeking a partnership with the National Commission for the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCPA-SALW). A move aimed at combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the State and the Country at large.
Ibrahim Muhammad Ladan, Zonal Director Northwest Zone of the Commission, confirmed this development while paying an official visit to Muhammad K. Dagaceri, the Jigawa State Head of the Civil Service in Dutse..
Ladan noted that the Agency’s mandate is to address the grave challenges posed by the illegal movement of small arms into the Country Nigeria, saying “it is one of the chief contributors to the raging arm conflict in the Country.”
He emphasised the need for strong partnerships at both State and National levels to enhance public safety and security.
The Zonal Director noted the commendable efforts being made by the State Government to promote peaceful coexistence among the Herders and Farmers in recent times, calling for a scale-up of the effort.
Responding, Muhammad K Dagaceri assured the Commission of the State of unwavering support and cooperation in carryiing out its mandate in the State. He noted with delight the critical role that the Commission has been playing in fostering safety and security across the State and acknowledged the shared responsibility of both Government entities in tackling the growing concerns surrounding arms proliferation.
The meeting highlighted the necessity for collaborative efforts between Government Agencies to effectively mitigate the threats associated with small arms and light weapons, and ensure the well-being of citizens.
