The call was made by Fatoki Michael, a member of the Governing Council coordinating the Southwest zone, during a lecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, on the topic, “Project Management as a Tool for National Development & Innovation.”
Fatoki highlighted that CIPMN is set to commence on-campus induction for project management students in all Nigerian tertiary institutions offering the course. The initiative aims to formally integrate students as
Speaking on the broader role of project management, Fatoki, in a statement last week, emphasised the importance of embedding project management units or departments in all sectors and government agencies, similar to other recognised professions.
He stressed that this integration would enhance professionalism, improve project delivery, and foster efficient execution of national development initiatives.
He also called for project management education to be introduced in secondary schools, noting that early exposure would equip students with foundational knowledge applicable across diverse career paths.
“Nigerians should take project management seriously as a core profession, not merely a certification of skill,” Fatoki asserted.
He also encouraged students to take pride in their profession and to assert their professional status, cautioning against being treated as subordinate in workplaces.
He added that CIPMN induction and advocacy efforts reflect the institute’s commitment to promoting professional standards, innovation, and national development through project management excellence.
