The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, will confer diplomas on 27,848 graduates this weekend, marking its first convocation ceremony in eight years.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, 21 February, at the institution’s International Conference Centre, will combine eight graduating classes from 2018 to 2025. It forms part of the school’s 43rd to 50th consolidated convocation ceremony, alongside an exhibition highlighting art and technological innovation.
Speaking at a pre-convocation briefing in Enugu, IMT Rector, Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, said the ceremony would cover graduates from both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
According to the breakdown provided by the institution, 2,957 students graduated in 2018, followed by 5,859 in 2019 and 5,772 in 2020. The number fell to 4,687 in 2021, before rising again to 5,227 in 2022. More recent figures show a sharp decline, with 1,955 graduates in 2023, 1,135 in 2024, and 2,211 in 2025.

Governor Peter Mbah, government officials, and academic leaders from across the country are expected to attend the ceremony.
Ogbodo said the institution was addressing longstanding operational challenges and pursuing reforms under what it described as “The New IMT Initiative”, aimed at repositioning the polytechnic.
However, the convocation comes amid concerns over declining student enrolment. Investigations indicate that admissions into both ND and HND programmes have dropped significantly over the past three years.
Between 2018 and 2022, annual graduates in the ND programme did not fall below 1,500, while HND graduations consistently exceeded 1,400. In 2019, more than 4,000 students completed ND programmes, and over 3,000 graduated from HND programmes in 2022.
