Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Anthony Joshua could return to the ring before the end of 2025, suggesting it might be a low-profile bout to help the former heavyweight champion regain momentum.
Anthony Joshua has been out of action since suffering a fifth-round stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. The setback stalled his bid for another world title and delayed a long-anticipated showdown with Tyson Fury.
Speaking to reporters, Hearn said Anthony Joshua could take a tune-up fight before 2026, describing it as an informal return rather than a major event.

“We’ll make a decision this week on Anthony’s next fight,” Hearn said. “If he fights this year, it’s just gonna be a low-key one, you probably won’t even hear about it unless it’s Jake Paul.”
He added that the purpose of the potential fight is simply to get Joshua “back in the groove” after a lengthy layoff.

“It’s not about the money. It’s about fighting again without all the pressure of a stadium event. Just turn up, weigh in, and fight,” Hearn explained. “I admire that he still has the hunger for boxing.”
Joshua’s loss to Dubois ended a run of four straight wins following back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, who dethroned him as unified world heavyweight champion in 2021.
The two-time heavyweight champion held the unified titles between 2017 to 2019 and 2019 to 2021, and Hearn maintains that Anthony Joshua remains determined to reclaim his place at the top of the division.
