…set to restore teachers’ dignity and redefine the profession
In the quest to restore teachers’ dignity and redefine the profession, One Million Teachers, the convener of Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025, is poised to hold a symposium of not less than 60,000 teachers in attendance.
Oluwaseyi Anifowose, director of strategic partnerships at One Million Teachers revealed this during a media parley for the “Let There Be Teachers Conference” held on Tuesday, April 22, in Lagos, when he said to fix learning outcomes, Nigeria needs fixing teachers’ status, because the quality and commitment of educators in Nigeria matters.
“We believe that the future of our nation depends on the quality and commitment of those who stand in front of our classrooms.
“Because the truth is, you cannot fix learning outcomes without fixing the status of the teacher. And because we believe that the people who shape all other professions deserve to be celebrated, empowered, and equipped,” he said.
Making reference to the National Policy on Education (2014), which states “no educational system may rise above to the quality of its teachers”, he buttressed the need to celebrate teachers which the conference is all about.

He further revealed that the Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025 is not just a conference, but a movement, a bold and collective step to redefine the teaching profession, restore its dignity, and reposition teachers as the cornerstone of quality education and national development.
“We believe the conference will be one of the most transformative educational events not just in Nigeria, but on the African continent and in the world.
“On September 20, 2025, something monumental will happen at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, over 60,000 teachers will gather in one place to celebrate their role, reaffirm their commitment, and make history,” he stated.
According to Anifowose, the event will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers in one location, a powerful statement to the world that teachers truly matter.
Meanwhile, he explained the Lagos State government has approved the attendance of all public-school teachers in the state, and that the organisers are currently engaging Nigeria Union of Teachers, Association of Private Educators in Nigeria, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, the Association for Formidable Educational Development, and other associations in mobilising educators from the private sector.

“This is not just about breaking records. It’s about breaking barriers. It’s about challenging the status quo, disambiguating societal perception, and raising the bar and a new banner for teachers in Nigeria.
It’s about raising a new generation of teachers who can illuminate the mind, inspire change, and transform generations, one child at a time,” he said.
The conference will host keynote speakers, including the minister of education, and other national and international education leaders.
There will also be two power-packed panel sessions, one featuring trailblazing teachers and the other focused on education policy and leadership.
Besides, there will be awards ceremony, live exhibitions, a digital resource fair, and most importantly, and a “call to action” communique for a teacher-led education policy reform, among other events.
