Frank Mba, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development at Force Headquarters, has bowed out of service, following the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Mba’s retirement caps a 34-year career spanning operations, investigations, administration, and public relations.
His departure follows the recent retirement of Kayode Egbetokun, former Inspector-General of Police and the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the new head of the force.
Over the years, Mba has held strategic roles, including Area Commander in Ajah and Festac in Lagos, Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, head of the Border Patrol Force at Force Headquarters, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Panti, Lagos.
A former Force Public Relations Officer and Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Mba, joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet officer, graduating as the best cadet in academics at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano.
He earned a law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002, later obtaining a Master’s degree in Law with distinction from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
His professional development included several international programmes, including the FBI National Academy in Quantico, United States, and leadership courses at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
He also represented Nigeria in international assignments, most notably during the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007.
In a farewell message, Mba expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation under his administration.
“I am deeply grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the privilege of serving our great nation. The confidence reposed in the Nigeria Police leadership and the support given to the institution during this period have been invaluable,” he said.
He also thanked Nigerians for their support throughout his career, describing policing as a “difficult but noble profession” and leaving the service with “a heart full of gratitude and pride.”
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission has promoted seven AIGs to the rank of DIGs as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership cadre of the Nigeria Police Force and prepare a new generation of officers to work with the newly appointed Inspector-General.
The promotions were awarded based on merit, seniority, service record, and performance in a written examination and oral interview conducted at the PSC’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The newly promoted DIGs include Zacharia Fera Achinyan, formerly AIG Zone 4, Makurdi; Zango Ibrahim Baba, formerly AIG Department of Logistics and Supply; Isyaku Mohammed, formerly AIG Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Margaret Agebe Ochalla, formerly AIG FCID Annex, Lagos; Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, formerly AIG Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, formerly AIG Zone 15, Maiduguri; and Umar Shehu Nadada, formerly AIG Zone 14, Katsina.
This latest round of promotions also follows the elevation of DIG Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of DIG and addresses vacancies created by the retirement of eight senior officers.
Hashimu Argungu, PSC Chairman DIG (Rtd), while congratulating the officers, urged them to uphold the responsibilities of their new offices, prioritise national security, and maintain a productive working relationship with the Commission.
Several PSC board members participated as examiners in the process, including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, JSC (Rtd), Taiwo Lakanu, DIG (Rtd) and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters, and Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, ensuring transparency and rigour in the selection process.
The PSC emphasised that the promotions reflect its commitment to building a police leadership that demonstrates competence, professionalism, and dedication to service.
