At least five soldiers lost their lives, and others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a suicide bomber rammed into a military convoy in the Timbuktu triangle, the Lake Chad Basin on Tuesday, sources said.
It was gathered that a car laden with explosives attacked the military convoy, resulting in two senior military officers – a major and a lieutenant- being wounded, and some operational vehicles damaged beyond repair.

According to the source, he said that some operational vehicles were destroyed, and the wounded have been flown to Maiduguri for medical attention.
“ You know, in the past weeks, they have lost some of their strongholds, resulting in IEDs, killing five soldiers and injuring an unspecified number of troops.
The attack caused significant damage to military equipment used for offensive and defensive operations in the weeks-long clearance operations,” said one of the soldiers.

He said the terrorists used a car loaded with explosives to ram into the military convoy.
The troops were returning from a clearance operation that successfully dislodged several insurgent camps and killed many of them when the attack reportedly occurred.
A security source said, “Unfortunately, we lost five soldiers in the incident. Manga (the Commander) is hale and hearty, and the operation continues. I can assure you that the setbacks won’t deter us.”A top security source disclosed.
