The Adamawa State Government, in partnership with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), has empowered no fewer than 24,000 schoolgirls across the State with a ₦40,000 conditional cash grant to support their education.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri disclosed this in Fufore during the official unveiling of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) disbursement programme.
The governor said the initiative was designed to boost access to education, reduce school dropout rates and expand economic opportunities for the girl-child in Adamawa State.
According to him, each beneficiary will receive ₦40,000 in the first school term, while ₦10,000 will be disbursed in both the second and third terms. He explained that the financial support is conditional upon beneficiaries maintaining a minimum of 75% school attendance.
Governor Fintiri noted that the State Government had continued to strengthen the education sector by consistently paying WAEC and NECO examination fees for students, describing the gesture as part of efforts to ease the financial burden on parents.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering girls to achieve their academic and professional ambitions, including careers in medicine, engineering and other specialised fields.
The governor added that the programme also targets girls who had dropped out of school, married girls and those with children, encouraging them to re-enrol, complete secondary education and advance to tertiary institutions.
Governor Fintiri further disclosed that the State Government had maintained stable school fees in its tertiary institutions, attributing the policy to the prevailing economic realities faced by parents and the premium placed on education by his administration.
During the visit, the governor inaugurated several key projects in Fufore Local Government Area, including the Fresh Air Gate, Legislative Block, PDP Secretariat, Cottage Hospital and Government Lodge.
He said the projects were aimed at improving governance, healthcare delivery and infrastructure, as well as enhancing the overall welfare of the people.
Speaking earlier, Peace Samson Audu, the Chairperson of Fufore Local Government Area, commended Governor Fintiri for what she described as his people-oriented leadership, noting that it had continued to drive development across the area.
