Following attacks by unknown gunmen on Ataka community in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the House of Representatives’ members from the zone have called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy troops to the troubled area.
The concerned House members said deployment of troops to the area has become imperative to secure the lives of the inhabitants and control hostilities.
BusinessDay recalled that no fewer than 19 people were feared killed by yet to be identified gunmen who invaded the community in the dawn of Easter Sunday. Several people were also injured in the attack which lasted for about three hours.
The House of Representatives members from Southern Kaduna Senatorial district made their resolutions known after an emergency meeting on the crisis.
They also urged the Federal Government to immediately advise the Kaduna State government to deploy both police and soldiers to the volatile areas in order to prevent escalation of the crisis.
The federal legislators from Southern Kaduna who passed their resolution to newsmen are those from the federal constituencies in Kaura, Gideon Gwani; Jaba/Zango Kataf, Godfery Gaiya; Kauru, Simeon Arabo; Jema’a/Sanga, Shehu Garba, and Kachia/Kagarko, Adams Jagaba Adams.
The federal lawmakers in a statement reviewed the threat of “renewed attacks in the zone” while condemning “in its entirety, the renewed attacks on Southern Kaduna villages particularly the one that happened in Kaura that claimed more than 20 lives already, with 4 villages totally burnt down by unknown assailants”.
In the statement, they jointly signed, they implored the Federal Government to quickly intervene in the unfortunate happenings in Southern part of the state in order to prevent worst situation in future.
While commiserating with the victims of the attacks, the House of Representatives members called “on all relevant government agencies to provide urgently relief materials to cushion the effects of the displaced persons particularly women and children sheltered at the various primary schools in Kaura Local Government Area”.
They pleaded with the people of Southern Kaduna Senatorial zone “to remain calm, orderly and peaceful even in the face of the unnecessary attacks being visited on the people”
