The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has impounded 21 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, and arrested their riders for violating the ban on motorcycle operations along major roads and highways in Abuja.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Thursday, was conducted by a combined team of police officers under Operation Sweep, alongside officials of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and other sister security agencies.
According to a statement by Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, operation covered major roads and strategic corridors across the FCT.

According to the Police Command, the motorcycles were seized after they were found plying restricted routes in defiance of existing traffic and security regulations. The riders were arrested and will be processed in line with extant laws.
The police said the operation is part of an ongoing inter-agency strategy aimed at reducing traffic-related crimes, curbing the use of commercial motorcycles for criminal activities, and improving public safety within the nation’s capital.
Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to strictly enforce all security and traffic regulations designed to protect lives and property.
He warned that continued disregard for the ban on commercial motorcycles along major roads and highways would attract decisive enforcement actions, adding that similar operations would be intensified across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
Dantawaye also assured residents that the police and other security agencies remain committed to proactive policing measures to enhance safety and security in Abuja.
The FCT Police Command urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, comply with traffic and security directives, and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
