Abubakar Malami (SAN), former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, has acknowledged receiving a summons from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and says he is prepared to comply.
In a statement shared on his personal Facebook page on Friday, Malami described himself as a responsible citizen who believes in transparency and accountability, emphasising that he has no hesitation about responding to the EFCC’s call.
“I wish to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a patriotic and law-abiding Nigerian, I am fully ready to honour the invitation,” he wrote.

He noted that making the information public aligns with his continued support for openness and responsible leadership.
“My actions are guided by the ideals of transparency and accountability in governance — values I have long promoted,” he added, assuring that he would update Nigerians as the situation develops.
Malami served as Nigeria’s chief law officer from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
During his time in office, he handled numerous major legal matters, such as asset recovery efforts, anti-corruption initiatives, and several controversial government actions that attracted significant local and international interest.

He also played a prominent role in cases involving large-scale financial crimes, global arbitration disputes, and reform initiatives.
In the latter part of his tenure, Malami came under public criticism over issues tied to asset declarations, contract processes, and the management of recovered assets — allegations he repeatedly refuted.
As of the time this report was filed, the EFCC had yet to disclose the specifics of its invitation to the former minister.
