Monday Okpebholo, Edo State Governor, is set to formally present 54 units of construction equipment to the 18 Local Government Councils across Edo State, in what the Administration describes as a practical step toward accelerating grassroots infrastructure delivery.
The event, scheduled for Thursday in Benin City, is expected to highlight the Dtate Government’s focus on decentralised development, improved service delivery, and the strengthening of local governance structures.
The equipment package-comprising graders, excavators, rollers, and other heavy-duty machines-is expected to enhance road construction, rural access projects, drainage rehabilitation, and other community-driven infrastructure works across the State.
State officials said placing the equipment directly under the control of local councils would help reduce dependence on external contractors, cut project timelines, and eliminate bureaucratic delays often associated with procurement processes.
The initiative is designed to empower council leadership, stimulate economic activity in rural communities, and improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities across Edo’s three senatorial districts.
Policy analysts note that decentralising infrastructure tools to the local level could also improve fiscal efficiency, as Councils will be able to undertake smaller projects in-house and respond more quickly to community needs.
The inauguration ceremony will be performed by the Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and is expected to attract top Government officials, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
Officials say the deployment of the equipment represents a strategic intervention aimed at delivering visible development outcomes while strengthening the operational capacity of local administrations across the State.
