Premier League champions Liverpool have agreed to a British transfer record fee of £125 million to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
The deal, which eclipses the previous record held by Liverpool’s own Florian Wirtz, is now in place on transfer deadline day.
Sources confirmed to BBC Sport that the 25-year-old Swedish international is scheduled to undergo a medical on Monday before signing a six-year contract at Anfield.
Liverpool’s initial £110 million offer in August was rejected, but the Premier League champions have returned with a fee that has finally secured their top summer target.
This protracted transfer saga, which saw Isak train on his own at his former club Real Sociedad, appears to have reached its conclusion just days after Newcastle signed German striker Nick Woltemade for a club-record £69 million.
Isak’s arrival for £125 million will make him the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, surpassing the £116 million fee paid for Florian Wirtz earlier in the summer.
The deal adds to an already significant spending spree for the Reds, who have also brought in players like Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, taking their total summer spending to approximately £416 million.
Liverpool may not be finished yet, as the club is reportedly also working on a deal to sign England defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
